How to Make a Passport Photo PDF for Print (Free, No Studio Visit)
May 11, 2026
Need passport-size photos for a visa, school ID, BCS form, or bank application? The old way is to walk to a photo studio, pay 100–300 BDT (or ₹100–₹300, or $10–$15), and wait. The new way: take a phone selfie at home, generate a print-ready A4 sheet, and print it at the corner shop for less than 50 BDT.
TL;DR
- Open Passport Photo PDF
- Drop one clear photo of yourself
- Pick size (35×45mm for BD/India/EU, 51×51mm for US visa)
- Pick layout (Grid of 8 is most common)
- Download and print on A4 photo paper
Photo guidelines
The same rules apply globally:
- Plain light background - white or off-white
- Face front-on, neutral expression, mouth closed
- No sunglasses, no hat, no headphones
- Even lighting, no shadows on face
- Resolution at least 1000 × 1000 pixels (most phones easily exceed this)
If your background isn't clean, you can use a free background-remover (search "remove.bg") before uploading.
Size standards by country
| Country / use | Size (mm) | | --- | --- | | Bangladesh NID, Passport, BCS | 35 × 45 | | India passport, UPSC, IBPS | 35 × 45 | | EU / Schengen visa | 35 × 45 | | UK passport | 35 × 45 | | US visa, US passport | 51 × 51 (2"×2") | | Stamp size (small ID forms) | 25 × 25 |
Layout choices
- Single - one large photo. Use if you need a single high-quality print for a digital scan.
- Grid of 4 - 2×2 layout. Spaced and easy to cut.
- Grid of 8 - 2×4 layout. Most common - gives you 8 copies on one A4 sheet.
Print at home or at a shop
The output PDF is A4 portrait. Two print options:
At home
- Use photo paper (glossy or matte) - regular paper gives a dull, washed-out result
- Set printer to Actual size or 100% - NOT "Fit to page"
- For best color, print at High quality / Photo mode
At a print shop
- Take the PDF on a USB stick or email it to the shop
- Ask for A4 photo print at 300 DPI
- Typical cost: 20–50 BDT in Bangladesh, ₹15–₹40 in India, $1–$3 in the US
Why this works
The tool centers each photo on the page with the exact physical size, allowing for 3 mm of border between copies so you can cut them apart with scissors. It uses PyMuPDF for placement (the same library Adobe uses internally) so the printed dimensions are exactly to spec.
