How to Convert PDF to Word Online - Free, No Email Required
May 13, 2026
Editing a PDF in Word, Google Docs, or LibreOffice starts with one boring step:
turning the PDF back into a .docx. Most online converters either watermark the
output, ask for your email, or cap you at 5 MB.
PDF Studio's PDF to Word tool is free, has no caps, doesn't ask for an email, and runs entirely on our server (nothing installs on your machine).
What gets preserved
- Paragraphs and line breaks - exactly as in the source
- Headings (when the PDF has a structural tag for them)
- Basic tables - rows and columns are reconstructed
- Inline images - extracted and re-embedded into the docx
- Bold, italic, underline - when the source uses real font weights (not just thick strokes)
What needs cleanup
PDF is a print-layout format; Word is a reflowing-text format. A few things don't round-trip cleanly:
- Multi-column magazine layouts end up as single columns in Word
- Floating text boxes (sidebars, callouts) are inlined where they appeared
- Equations become approximations - for math-heavy papers, keep the PDF
If your PDF is scanned (e.g. from a copier), run PDF OCR first - that adds a text layer, then PDF to Word can extract real, editable text.
Step-by-step
1. Open the tool
Head to PDF to Word.
2. Drop your PDF
The drop zone accepts files up to 100 MB. Files auto-delete after one hour.
3. Click Convert
The conversion takes 5–15 seconds depending on page count and image density.
4. Download .docx
The output opens cleanly in:
- Microsoft Word 2007 and newer
- Google Docs - upload via Drive
- Apple Pages - via "Open With"
- LibreOffice Writer - full compatibility
Common use cases
- Resumes - edit a candidate's PDF resume without retyping
- Contracts - make redline edits in Word, then re-export to PDF for signing
- Academic papers - convert PDFs you wrote years ago to update them
